Myth: Body love comes with age

sunset

While it may be true that older women tend to take on a more carefree attitude about their bodies, it doesn’t mean we are body confident. People face different challenges at different phases in life. The more we buy into the idea that a woman’s worth is connected to physical appearance, the more devastating aging can be.

As we age and our body changes, women tend to get on with life, increasingly understanding we are more than our bodies. It’s not that most of us feel comfortable in bikinis or trying on new clothes in our 50s. We still feel frustration as we wrestle with body hate. We still feel the desire to be attractive and not the butt of a joke. It’s just different than when we’re younger. We lean into our power more, and we know what we want. Which, by the way, is super attractive and powerful.

There is still a lot of work to do around body confidence for everyone. The world tends to associate body confidence with sexuality only, instead of with inner conscious choices and wisdom, where body confidence really stems from.

Stay strong.
